Since 1983 Sandy's Donuts has been making some of the best donuts in the Fargo / Moorhead area. Sandy's Donuts was originally started by Sanfred (Sandy) Ostlund and wife Donna, after the transport company where he worked for 18 years closed.

For years, Sandy's hobby was making buttermilk donuts-just like his mother used to make in a cast iron pan on a coal burning stove at their Tioga, ND farm when he was a kid. As an adult, Sandy loved making buttermilk donuts so much that he would make and deliver them to his neighbors free of charge. While out of work, a neighbor suggested he open a donut shop. "We didn't know if we could do it or not, but we decided to give it a try." After a trip to Minneapolis for some baking equipment, the Ostlunds opened shop in a rented building on West Fargo's Sheyenne Street. The donut shop was an instant hit, keeping Sandy and Donna up all night making donuts for West Fargo and the whole FM community. When their son, Mark, heard about this, he came home from college to help and has been here ever since. In 2002, after running out of room, Sandy's Donuts moved to their present location at 301 Main Ave West, and Mark took over ownership of the shop.
Sandy died on October 13, 2008. Mark continues to own and run the shop along with 40 employees, using the same recipes and friendly service that has made Sandy's Donuts a great business since 1983.
